Where would we all be without our handbags?
Personally, I know I would be lost! I need a big one too, to carry around all my goodies that keep me primped, connected and organized. I thought I’d briefly share with you some of the things I haul around with me on a daily basis. They’ve kept me in good stead really, whether it’s a day at Fashion Week or a study sesh in the library. I find I’m usually pretty prepared!
First up, just a quick run down on my brilliant handbag which gets filled, chucked, dumped and dragged on a daily basis, AND lives to tell about it.
Here she is:
But, on a scholar/blogger budget it works just fine for me. I’ve dressed it up a little with a cute little Marc Jacobs key ring which doubles as a zipper helper, meaning I can get my bag open quick sticks!
Now, for the exciting contents of this little baby. Here is what I carry pretty regularly:
Some of the items are pretty self explanatory.
Wallet: I love this, it’s pink and has little diamante’s all over it. Sadly it’s by the Kardashian Kollection brand. While I have a bit of a dislike for those Kardashian sisters and their penchant for mispelling things so they start with K, I have to say they make a cute wallet!
Sunglasses: My go-to sunnies from Dotti. Cheapo (around $19.95) they’re black AND brown so they go with everything and they ray-ban style shape is super cute.
iPad: What’s a blogger to do without this trusty piece of Apple perfection? I have the “new” ipad, and I’m in love! It doubles as a mirror too, thanks to a handy app.
Phone: insert second Apple product placement here. The trusty iphone. I’m still on the 3GS version, but it works great for me! Plus I got a cute pink sparkly case for it from Diva which makes it so much more fun It also contains the essential tunes that everyone needs to get them through the day. My headphones were kind of makeup stained so they’re not pictured, but I had to comment on how essential it is to keep Taylor Swift in your hand bag as well.
Umbrella: Leopard print of course. Who knows these days if it will be raining, hailing or shining? A girl with my kind of hair (rain = frizz) needs to always be prepared.
Hair product: on the topic of hair and frizz I’ll move on to the more beauty-ish products I have in here.
For hair rescue I carry the John Frieda Full Repair Touch-Up Flyaway Tamer RRP$15.99 (pictured above right). This is such a great idea. It looks a lot like a mascara and is a similar size, but the magic mascara-ish wand inside is there to distribute hair serum to broken strands, smoothing away flyaways and calming split ends. It contains Inca Inchi oil to keep hair sleek and smooth but it doesn’t weigh you hair down or make it look greasy. This is an awesome item to have if you wear your hair out a lot like I do, a quick swipe will calm those fuzzies on the top of your hair and around your part (or your fried ends for that matter) at any time of the day.
Brush: Continuing on the hair route, combining the flyaway tamer with a quick brush packs a double punch. I like to carry my VS Sassoon Body Contour mid sized brush RRP$26.95. While this one is designed for, and great at heat styling, it still manages to smooth and detangle my hair at any time of the day without amping up the static or flattening my style.
Mascara: Now on to the makeups! I’m trying out the Covergirl LashBlast 24hr mascara right now, this one goes for RRP$17.95. If you’re after something that lasts, you can’t beat this one. It lasts so well it’s a bit of a nightmare to get off. But I’d rather that than than dreaded racoon eyes by mid morning!
I’ve also got the Revlon Precision Lash Adhesive pictured here, as on this particular day I was wearing lashes, and those of you familiar with this activity will know it’s almost always necessary to have the ‘just in case’ glue on hand. This glue is BRILLIANT! I can’t reccomend it highly enough. I wear it with the Revlon ‘Defining’ lashes for a natural emphasis on the eye area. The glue goes for $9.99 and the lashes are $17.99 for a two pack. Oh and this adhesive is totally as good as DUO – if not better, because it has a precision wand for easy application.
Lipstick: Obligatory MAC product #1, what would a beauty blogger’s bag be without something, or a few things as it happens, from MAC. I like this lippie for long wear, its a soft pink and doesn’t dry out my lips too much. It’s the MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Overtime (left). According to the Temptalia blog this one is a little lighter than Creme Cup which I know is pretty popular (but I haven’t tried). This one is a little on the pricey side though, at RRP$40.00. Unlimited is also a nice shade in this line too, if you’re after something a touch darker.
Face: Not too much to talk about here, the MAC Mineralize SkinFinish Natural in Medium, an awesome powder, perfect colour and consistency. RRP$47.00
Tissues: Again, a bit of a no brainer, EVERYONE needs to carry tissues for a myriad of different reasons. These ones happen to be extra spesh though. They’re the Kleenex Slim Wallet Packs, which are super sleek and thin (you can actually fit them in the back of a pocket without noticing!), the packs open out to reveal eight high quality tissues. Best of all they’re only $2.69 for six packets of eight, and they have the cutest designs on them. Here’s what they look like inside:
Last but not least, we have to talk about my PERFUME! I don’t know about you but I feel naked if I don’t have perfume on. It’s like forgetting to put on my watch…
or my engagement ring…
or my pants!
And this super cute little transportable bottle from Urban Rituelle is the answer to all my prayers and it’s full of fruity goodness. If you haven’t smelt the Urban Rituelle range of products you’re missing out, they smell divine! And my fave out of all of them is the Peach Blossom scent. This little perfume is called the Peach Blossom Petit Parfum, which costs a mere $14.50 and packs a fruity punch that will take you from winter to wonderful in around 2.5 seconds.
Okay, so before this post becomes even more huge, I must be signing off.
be sure to tell me beauties what you think of my ‘essentials’ – do you have any faves you can reccomend?
