Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean that smelling like a coconut daquiri and protecting your skin is over too!
I’ve recently stumbled onto some divine sun care products that will keep me Summer-ific even in the Autumn! (Yeeeeess USA readers, I know you call it Fall! We’re weird in Australia, I know).
Sexy skin specialists, Le Tan have a collection of sun care products inspired by the tropical coconut oils that people slathered all over themselves back in the day to get a tan (If you do this now, you are VERY silly!). Since I’m fair and freckly this kind of thing was never my style, and really, the low sun protection on that stuff is just a nightmare waiting to happen. But I LOVE the smell of the stuff, and for those people who are also fans of that sweet Summer scent, these products may be the answer. You can protect your skin and still imagine you’re on a Hawaiian island getaway.
My faves are the Le Tan Coconut SPF 30+ Mist Spray and the Le Tan Coconut Sunscreen Oil SPF30+
Formula wise, the difference between these two is simple. One is a traditional light-weight sunscreen (the spray) and the other is an oil, much more like the coconut oil of the old days. Both of them have the same light coconut chocolately scent that is noticable, but still delicate, so if you want to you can still wear perfume as well. I find that it teams well with woody or oriental type perfumes, I’m loving the sunscreen layered with Kate Walsh’s signature scent Boyfriend.
The coconut spray is in a handy spritz bottle that aids application, it’s also four hours water resistant and won’t leave you covered in a white slimy film like some other sunscreens tend to do. The oil however IS an oil so it will leave a residue on the skin, but this is lovely for dryer skin or if you’re looking to add a nice (translucent) glow, while still being sun-safe. Both the products nourish the skin so you can skip the lotion and slip, slop, slap instead!
For my Aussie readers out there, SPF 30+ is a MUST HAVE all year round. I wear sunscreen every day, and once you get used it it, it’s just like slapping on the deoderant (which hopefully most of you do daily!). Your skin will thank you one day – trust me… leaving the house without some kind of sun protection every day will most likely result in a pruney complexion when you’re a grandma, at best. We should all be familiar with the more serious risks involved when you don’t protect your skin.
Skin cancer, no thanks! Coconut scented loveliness? Yes please!
You can pick up the spray formula for $16.99 for 250ml or grab the oil for only $10.99, but it’s a smaller size at 125ml. The coconut scented sun care is also available in a straight lotion formula if you’re not into spray bottles. You can find LeTan at all the regular places… KMart, supermarkets, Priceline. Check out their website here for more info.
Embrace the summer, even when it’s raining outside. (I’m totally sick of all this rain we’ve been having in NSW btw!)
Have your say on sun protection beauties! Do you wear a sunscreen every day? Have you tried the Le Tan coconut products?

I have not tried the products above. I’ve smelt them when people use them at the beach and they smell simply gorgeous. …
But I sampled the Le Tan Coconut Body Butter the other day, and my friend commented that it smelt like off-condensed milk. To be honest, I wasn’t really a fan of the smell either..it was sort of a strange bitter scent??I don’t know whether it was just the product or…..
Oh..and I don’t wear sunscreen everyday, though I probably should.
Hi Jaylee!
I haven’t tried the body butter but I find it’s hard to smell stuff like this just in the bottle. You need to apply it to the skin and wear it for a while for the scent to settle, don’t you think?
The coconut smell just reminds me so much of summer!
Tsk Tsk naughty girl – get on to that sunscreen! Even in Winter! It will save you lots of worry and wrinkles later on!
Thanks for the comment
will I get sunburnt if I use the Le tan coconut oil. which is better the 30 or 15 because I want to tan as well!!
Hi Nicola,
You shouldn’t burn if you use either because they have sun protection in them. The 30 is obviously higher sun protection than the 15 so you’d be more likely to ‘tan’ with the 15. I never suggest anyone tries to tan in the sun though, hit up a spray tan parlour or try one of the many great at home self tanners, it’s just not worth it to let yourself bake and risk sun damage and cancer for that brownish hue. If you need a recommendation for a great at home tan product, try the le-tan mousse. My trick is to apply it with a self tanning sponge (model co makes a good one of these!) it makes it super easy and looks totally natural, everyone tells me I have a great tan when I use it! Good luck! Xx
the general rule is that you shuold use at least a 30 SPF sunscreen. If you want a really good sunscreen, you shuold look under the ingredients for sunscreens that have zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, or oxybenzone. The sunscreen shuold also protect against UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays cause sunburn and UVA rays penetrate the skin on a deeper level. Both rays can cause cancer. As for the SPF, for a person that would be burned after 10 minutes in the sun unprotected, they would be able to stay in the sun for 250 minutes without being burned if they applied a sunscreen with 25 SPF. The reccomended time between sunscreen applications in 2-3 hours.Hope this helps!
